We started off the week for Inquiry by the children being given a puzzle piece. The students had to find other people with similar pieces then in their groups put the puzzle together. We then brainstormed what the puzzles could be about. There was a bowl of dog food, a cage, a meerkat and an elephant. We had a discussion about how they all related to animals. This began our new Inquiry focus 'Cool creatures!'. We were very lucky and went on a whole school excursion to Melbourne Zoo on Wednesday. We had an amazing day seeing so many different animals! Here is one photo of us at the end of our day! More photos coming soon!
On Friday morning we started the day with a special ANZAC day liturgy outside with the whole school. We have been learning about Anzac day this week in our class. We read a special book called ' My Grandfather marches on Anzac Day'. We looked at some pictures of soldiers and discussed how brave the soldiers were. The letters 'ANZAC' stand for 'Australian and New Zealand Army Corps'. The students were very lucky and were given a special Anzac medal and sticker today to honour it being 100 years since the ANZAC landings at Gallipoli.
On Monday we will be making Anzac biscuits- ' The original ANZAC biscuit was known as a wafer and was part of the rations given to the soldiers during World War 1. They were given instead of bread because they lasted a lot longer.
